Little Ms.Working Woman!

They all lied okay. All of them.  From teachers who tried (unsuccessfully) to get us to remember when to say “yours sincerely” and when to say “yours faithfully”, to older cousins who had Monday morning blues every day of the week,  to parents who said “you can’t sit/talk/walk like that after you start working in an office.  They all lied about what being a working woman is like.

It is a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it’s been one year (O.M.G!!!) since I started working and I have been having SO.MUCH.FUN!!

I really wasn’t all that excited about starting work. Though I interned in a couple of cool places, I still wasn’t really sure about it. Cubicles were a thing of my nightmares (still are), and I really didn’t think I would get up every morning with the same level of enthusiasm to get to work. What if I got bored? What if I had to fake-smile at my colleagues….Colleagues… that is such a weird word. What if I had to use that word?! I pushed it off a year by doing a PG..  but then, I am not really Ms.Lets-study-till-eternity either, so I had to bite the bullet.

It happened in a blur. I was on an African-vacation (Doesn’t that sound wayyyy cooler than “I was lazing around getting pampered at Mom and Dad’s place”), and I meet this distant cousin on FB and we are all chatting away, and he says he has a buddy who is looking for a creative person and voila, a month later, I started work at Vannam!

Coming back to my point, working life is great! Let me tell you why!

Advantage #1- THE MONEYYYYYYY!!!! : You can preach that love and oxygen are all you need to live and all that, but money is great too! You can buy aaaaaal kinda pretty things!!!

There is nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when you know that window shopping needn’t just be window shopping! I shop for me, my friends, me, my parents, me, my cousins, me.,…. It is AH-mazing! Also, fancy restaurant lunches and dinners are an added bonus! Remember when McD was the shiz? Not anymore!!

Advantage #2 -Adulthood membership card! : The moment you start getting paid, everyone is all ready to accept you as an adult. They sorta let you be and you get all the privileges you never got before. In college, on cold winter Sundays, Mom used to wake me up at 8 cuz it was “too late to be in bed”. Now they are okay with even 11! Adulthood FTW!!! Also, “I am working” is a great way to avoid any event you don’t want to attend. And with an office like mine, working is better that 90% of all social events!

Advantage #3 (The best of all!) : I got to meet the coolest people and do the coolest stuff since I started working. I never had to use the word colleagues or fake-smile, cuz my office mates are awesome and we are a team, a gang! Each one of us are different from the other (sorta like the Ice Age herd) and each one of us are there for the other (exactly like the Ice Age herd!). Also, office itself is a cozy home with a bean bag and all with an attached terrace and not a single cubicle in sight!

I also got to do a lotta things! From improving my designing abilities, to knowing how to clean a place in less than an hour, to posing for pictures for a newspaper, to really really late night car drives, to eating more pizzas than strictly necessary… I did it all!!!

Bottom line: It was NOTHING like I had feared. When you work in a start-up (especially one like mine) the feeling of ownership is way more and every achievement for the company sorta feels like your own! So every small thing is big, every achievement calls for celebration and every Monday is a lot more fun than the weekend!!!!
