Poetu Medusa

One of the things that comes with kids and parenting is school projects. If it was sheer torture when we were in school, would it be any better now?

I swore up and down that I wouldn't get involved in making charts and cutting out shapes and (God forbid) using beads, but we all know how this story ends.

(There were no beads involved, though)

But then they had this task for their English class where they had to sing a song about a fruit or a vegetable.

Now, this is more my thing!

I used to write a lot of silly poetry before, where the only aim was to rhyme. It is a special skill, and these days I only use it to send cheesy notes to Kartik.

This assignment finally gave me a chance to do this again, and here are the results!

Watermelon for Sidhu

Along the muddy ground

In thin creeping vines

The watermelon grows

Big and green with lines

Cut the giant melon

Inside it is red and nice

Tastes as sweet as candy

Melts in your mouth like ice!

We eat this juicy fruit

Every summer season

It cools your body down

Isn't that a great reason?

I love big watermelons,

They are oh so yummy

I even eat the seed

It may grow in my tummy!

Murungakkai for Ajju

I like a vegetable that's green

I like a vegetable that's big

I like a vegetable that looks

Like a long drum stick!

On a tree with thin branches

The slender moringa swings

Every time I see it,

My little heart sings!

Hard outside and soft inside

It smells great while cooking

It is full of fibre-y goodness,

A vegetable fit for a king!

Let us eat it together

Come on, it's time for lunch

There is enough to share

Let us munch munch munch!

Because I don't think they make moringa patterned kids dresses
